As you probably know from visiting your local drug store, or by watching all of the television commercials, there are many creams on the market to choose from. I prefer a product called Callex Exfoliating Ointment.

Keep in mind that this is for the foot that has a lot of thick, or callused skin. Even if you just need a good moisturizer, this is still a very good product to use.  However, for moisturizers other products will also do just fine.

Here’s why I really like and recommend Callex Exfoliating Ointment:

1.  It is Diabetic friendly.  It will not irritate the skin because it does not contain urea or  salicylic acid, which most exfoliating creams do.

2.  It contains natural enzymes to soften up the hard, callused, thick skin.

3.  It does not have an alcohol base, so that allows for better skin absorption.

4.  It has a very nice peppermint scent.

5.  It leaves the skin very soft and feeling good.

6.  It is not greasy.

I get worried as a Podiatrist, sometimes, when I see patient come in with very thick calluses on their feet.  Often it’s around the heels. I am even more worried if they are diabetic.  That’s because, dry, thick callused skin can lead to tiny cracks and fissures in the skin. This can become an avenue for developing skin infections.

So, if I can be successful at helping to prevent this, I can help prevent other, more serious problems from developing.

Therefore, I strongly recommend my patients to get into the habit of moisturizing there feet every day. And if you’re diabetic, this must be part of your daily hygiene. This Callex product is very good for this. And if you’re diabetic, I suggest keeping Callex around all of the time for prevention.
